After 5 minutes of staring at my computer trying to figure out what to blog about next, I finally realized that I was staring RIGHT at an ENTIRE world of information. Whether it’s trying to figure out what to write(or shoot a video)about, or getting stuck in the middle of topic, some of the greatest content creators of all time have suffered from it. Here are some ideas that help getting over writers block.
JUST GOOGLE IT
We’re fortunate to live in a crazy-social networking-information age.
There have been many times that a friends Facebook status has inspired me to write. Just look around. Make sure you don’t get distracted from your mission of finding an inspirational idea.
Also, when there are times that you aren’t sitting down to write and you see something that sparks an idea, take a note of it. Then come back to it when you do decide to sit down to write.
Whether its a walk around the block or 10 quick push-ups, exercise gets the blood pumping to the brain. Allow yourself a few minutes cool down and re-hydration before you sit down to type or write.
Playing classical music softly in the back-round has been proven to put the brain in a right-brained “creative state”. I like Pandora because it plays all sorts of artist from the classical genre.
Browsing the Yahoo question and answer boards is one of my favorite ways of getting over writers block. Chances are, if there is one person searching for an answer to something, there are many others searching as well. Just solve their problem with you’re article or post.
JUST START WRITING
This is an old lyric writing trick. Even if you have to write off topic for a while, do it. This gets your brain working. Then come back to your topic and write your first line. Ideas have the tendency to stem from there.
CHANGE YOUR SETTING
I like to go to the park or the beach. Natural sounds tend to put us in a relaxed state where the brain can function better.
TAKE A BREAK
Sometimes frustration can block creative ideas. Taking a break to get some fresh air really helps relieve tension and eliminate frustration. You may even decide to switch subjects and come back to the one you’re having trouble with a couple days later.
MEDITATION OR VISUALIZATION
Meditation can cure many things including writers block. Sit back and close your eyes. Then quiet your body and mind with breathing and relaxation exercises. Just a few minutes of this will normally help you come back to a much more relaxed but alert state. Many times, an idea will spark during or right after a meditation.
I am confident that by utilizing just a few of these tips you will be getting over writers block and creating valuable content in a very short period of time.
Until next time..
